Excavator hire with operator

A larger tracked excavator and its operator for jobs a mini digger would take too long over: stripping a plot, digging deep drainage, breaking out old concrete and loading muck-away lorries.

Jobs we do with an excavator

Excavators suit open sites with room for the machine to slew, and a road or yard where a lorry can stop.

Plot strips

Topsoil and vegetation taken off a building plot and stockpiled or loaded away.

Reduced-level digs

Ground taken down to formation level for a slab, a car park or a new driveway.

Deep drainage

Drain and sewer runs deeper than a mini digger reaches, with trench supports supplied by your site.

Breaking out

Old slabs, foundations and hardstanding broken up and loaded, using a hydraulic breaker.

Loading lorries

Spoil loaded straight into muck-away wagons so the stockpile does not build up on site.

Ponds, ditches and banks

Field drains cleared, ditches recut, banks shaped and ponds dug on farms and larger gardens.

Excavator sizes

The machine has to reach the site on a low loader, so tell us about the road, any weight limits and where the transport can unload.

Sizes are for planning. Larger machines can be arranged; ask on the quote form.

How an excavator hire runs

On bigger digs the order of work matters as much as the machine.

  1. Before
    We agree the plan

Where the machine works from, where spoil goes and how lorries get in and out.

  2. Arrival
    Low loader delivery

The machine is unloaded where agreed. The road may need a short closure or a banksman, which we flag in the quote.

  3. On site
    Digging and loading

Your site lead sets the levels. The operator digs to them and loads lorries as they arrive.

  4. End of hire
    Off site

    Collection arrangements to confirm.

What we need to know about the site

Excavator jobs depend on the site around the dig. These details let us price it properly.

  • Road and gatewayWidth of the entrance, any weight limits and where a low loader can stop.
  • Volume and depthThe area and depth to dig, or the drawings and levels.
  • Muck-awayWhether lorries are booked, and where they can turn.
  • Overhead linesPower or phone lines over the work area.
  • Nearby buildingsWalls, foundations or boundaries close to the dig.
  • GroundSoil, clay, rock, old foundations or made ground, if known.

Excavator questions

Mini digger or excavator?

If the access is wide enough and there is a lot to move, an excavator usually finishes in fewer days. Describe the job and we will suggest the cheaper option.

How much can be dug in a day?

It depends on the ground and how quickly the spoil leaves site. We give an estimate of days in the quote once we know both.

Do you supply a banksman?

To confirm: whether a banksman or slinger can be supplied, and the charge.
